4 Successful Gambling Techniques

For me personally, being successful at gambling means winning more than losing. Even if your definition is different, the following techniques will help you reach your perception of success or will at least make you get better at it.

Discipline

Every bet is a risk, but some are way riskier than others. Professional gamblers don’t just play for the fun, they play to get the maximum out of each game. And to do this, you need to know when to bet more and most importantly when to leave the table. Still, knowing is not the same as actually doing. For that you need discipline. Lowering your bet even though it will feel so much better to raise. But at the end, it‘s better for your overall performance and unsatisfying for the current moment. The good news is, discipline can be mastered just as any other skill. You just need to know your weaknesses and to practice it consistently.

Rational Mindset

Being rational doesn’t mean to ignore emotions or to just pretend they don’t exist. Emotions are important but not the most important when speaking of wagers. Having a rational mindset means to never fall for gambler’s fallacy, superstitions, and other supernatural powers. I cannot even tell you how much it irritates me to hear: ‘I feel today’s my lucky day!’ or ‘I’ll raise because I saw a spider on the wall and spiders bring me luck!’ This type of behaviour is something that will only cause trouble. Focus on what’s really happening on the reels or on the blackjack table instead of letting mystical powers take over your decisions.

Basic Math Skills

Math is definitely not something anyone understands. For people like me who get along better with words than with numbers, it was a struggle to find the mathematician inside of me. But no reason to worry here, you don’t have to be a living calculator to play blackjack or any other skill-based casino game. You need the basics and trust me if I have mastered it, anyone can. Being familiar with general mathematical concepts such as the House Edge, Odds, RTP (Return to Player Percentage) is a must. Poker players use odds to know their chances of winning the hand and it wouldn’t hurt to know that your chances for the roulette ball to land on a single number is one out of 37.

Bankroll Management

Any great hand you get wouldn’t matter if you don’t have the real money to actually place the bet. So, controlling your cash balance by setting limits is the only way to gamble successfully or even to gamble at all. Otherwise, it will all just end very quickly and unglamorously. What I do, is set a monthly amount I can afford to lose and never pass that limit no matter how much feel the urge to. With this technique and this a bit ‘negative’ mindset, I could only feel satisfied at the end of the month. Losing my entire monthly gambling budget was never the case for me but doubling it, is what I aim at.

I guess these were my four simple techniques that help my gambling blossom and I hope they will help yours do the same too.
